SUMMARY:Fish on the Fence Gala
DESCRIPTION:SAVE the DATE for 2018 : Saturday February 10\n\nCelebrating the 10th anniversary of Fish on the Fence\n\nFish on the Fence was started in 2009 by the late Paul Cronauer\, a Port Angeles resident who envisioned 20\,000 fish covering the fencing that surrounds the Landing Mall next to the marine life center. It has since turned into a successful annual fundraising event\, arts education program\, and interpretive art walk.\n\nOur mission reads: Feiro Marine Life Center contributes to a strong community by providing local marine and watershed learning experiences\, inspiring us all to act on behalf of our environment.\n\nWe see over 25\,000 guests and learners a year. Programs include K-12 ocean and watershed science\, afterschool underwater robotics club and competition\, summer camp\, family programs\, adult programs\, speaker series\, citizen science studies\, marine mammal stranding response\, public outreach and more! \n\n2018 Featured Speaker:\n\nJill Bliss\n\n"Lives Entwined"\n\n\n\nJill is a nationally recognized artist who recently took up residence in the San Juan Islands. Her art celebrates the interconnectedness of nature\, and is featured in shops nationwide (including at Feiro!) Her work as a naturalist educator has immersed her in the Salish Sea ecosystem\, which extends across the U.S.-Canada border\, and includes the combined waters of the Strait of Georgia\, the Strait of Juan de Fuca\, Puget Sound\, and the San Juan Islands. We are extremely pleased to hear from Jill as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of art & science on the Port Angeles waterfront!\n\nArtist bio:\n\nI've always been a naturalist and artist since my earliest days on our family farm in Northern California: studying\, drawing and painting the natural world around me. College took me to Parson's School of Design in New York City\, and graduate school in San Francisco. For a time I was an adjunct professor at Portland State University teaching courses on design systems\, research\, theory\, and consumer psychology. I've been a professional artist and designer for almost two decades. Five years ago I came to the Salish Sea islands for a six month sabbatical to reconnect with the natural world. I'm still here! \n\n\n\nDetails at www.feiromarinelifecenter.org/fotf
