SUMMARY:Olympic Peninsula Academy (O.P.A.) Middle School Future City Regional Competition
DESCRIPTION:Olympic Peninsula Academy (O.P.A.) Students are competing at the Washington State Regional Future City Competition on Saturday January 18th. \n\nThe purpose of the competition is for 6th\, 7th & 8th grade students to foster interest in engineering\, math\, and science through hands-on\, real world applications. The mission of the Future City Competition is to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program that combines a stimulating engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application to present their vision of a city of the future.\n\nThis year's challenge is "Clean Water: Tap Into Tomorrow" and students are asked to identify an urban water system threat and then imagine\, research\, design and build a futuristic solution to ensure a reliable supply of clean water. OPA Students present their vision of the future through a virtual city design (using SimCity software)\; a 1\,500 word city essay\; a scale model of their city (built with recycled materials)\; and in a short presentation to a panel of STEM professionals. Keeping the engineering design process and project management front and center\, students are asked to address an authentic\, real-world question: How can we make the world a better place?\n\n \n\nGood Luck OPA Middle School Students!
