SUMMARY:Planting and Care of a Wildflower Meadow
DESCRIPTION:Did you miss our wildflower meadow presentation in September? Do not despair you can still find out\, step by step\, how to create and maintain your own wildflower meadow! Join Clallam County Master Gardeners Cece Fitton\, Nancy Kohn and the Wildflower Meadow Team once again for the Green Thumb Education Series presentation\, "Planting and Care of a Wildflower Meadow\," Thursday\, October 22nd at the Vern Burton Community Center Meeting Rooms\, 308 E. 4th Street in Port Angeles from 1:00 2:15 p.m. Replacing a lawn or other single-species landscape with a meadow is one of the most rewarding ways to provide food and shelter for pollinators\, beneficial insects\, birds and many other small members of the local food chain. Depending on the site\, a meadow can also improve water flow\, reduce erosion and require fewer long-term inputs than a traditional lawn. So if meadows are so beneficial\, why doesn't everyone simply scatter a packet of wildflower seed and wait for nature to take over? Our Master Gardeners will answer that question and many more based on their experience developing the Woodcock Garden and Arboretum Wildflower Meadow. The Green Thumb Education Series\, sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners\, is held in person typically on Thursdays from January through May\, and September through November. Scheduled presentations are subject to change. Please visit the WSU Extension Clallam County website calendar at https://extension.wsu.edu/clallam/master-gardener-calendar/ for the latest information on upcoming presentations.
