SUMMARY:Speaker Series: Endangered Puget Sound Rockfish Recovery
DESCRIPTION:In Puget Sound\, WA\, rockfish abundance has significantly declined over the last 50+ years as a result of commercial and recreational fishing\, life-history characteristics and the isolated geography of Puget Sound. In 2010\, this decline resulted in listing three species of rockfish under the Endangered Species Act: yelloweye rockfish\, canary rockfish and bocaccio.\n\n\n\nKelly Andrews from NOAA NW Fisheries Science Center will help us learn how cooperative research between scientists and recreational fishers has helped to better understand rockfish genetic distinctions\, leading to canary rockfish being removed from the Endangered Species list in early 2017. \n\n\n\nLearn how underwater robots (ROVs) are being used by the science team now and into the future to determine population abundance\, and how that will aid recovery planning for the remaining species.\n\n\n\n$5 suggested donation\; members always free! \n\n6:00-7:30pm
