Civic Minds + Creative Hearts: Insects of the Olympic Peninsula
Thursday, June 26th | 6pm-8pm

Join us for Civic Minds + Creative Hearts: Insects of the Olympic Peninsula in honor of our current exhibition “Hidden World: Jennifer Angus”.
Local ecologist Carter Urnes will share about his research here on the Olympic Peninsula, an area that contains a wonderful diversity of insects; including some species that occur nowhere else in the world! By learning about the insects in our communities we can appreciate our common and rare species, and better understand important sites for conservation. In this talk, Carter will discuss insects as an aspect of conservation ecology, some notable insects in our area, and the utility of iNaturalist for anyone interested in documenting living things.
If you have specific insect ID questions please bring your photos and Carter will help you identify them after the talk.
About the presenter: Carter Urnes is a local ecologist who has worked for Olympic National Park since 2012. He has conducted insect surveys since 2023 in ONP, and he is working on a book about historical ecological change on the Olympic Peninsula.
