Join Pam Larsen, co-founder of the Community Organic Gardens of Sequim and founder of the Sequim Organic Gardeners, as she explores “Planning and Planting for an Organic, Pest-Controlled Garden” on Saturday, August 10, 11 am, at Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way in Dungeness. Larsen has always gardened organically, and in the 20 years she has been in Sequim she has had only one pest infestation. In her 12 years with the Fir Street Community Organic Garden in Sequim, pest problems have also been kept to a minimum. Her talk will focus on techniques that discourage pests in the organic garden, including what to plant to attract beneficial insects who eat pests. She will identify which insects are beneficial and show how healthy plants use self-defense mechanisms to keep pest problems to a minimum. The talk will also include the importance of no-spray gardening and a brief discussion of trap cropping. The presentation is free and open to the public.
