Description
April 4—Open House at the Sister City Friendship Garden The Friendship Garden Open House runs from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the northwest side of Carrie Blake Park and offers a full afternoon of hands-on activities for all ages. Highlights include a kite-making workshop, docent-led garden tours, a live demonstration of the storytelling mobile application, and a paper craft workshop. Local photographers will be on site throughout the event, and attendees may also sign up for limited, 15-minute place-based portrait sessions offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available on the north side of Carrie Blake Park and by the Dog Park and ponds. Take a look at the event flyers included in this newsletter for more information. How the Storytelling Experience Works: Participants are invited to wander the Garden at their own pace, scanning discreet QR codes to unlock animated myth-based stories hosted online. Each story corresponds to specific features of the Garden, encouraging visitors to engage with both the landscape and the cultural narratives tied to Sequim’s Sister City relationship with Shiso, Japan. Drawing on more than two decades in the high-tech industry, artist Janine Miller blends light, electricity, and interactive design to create art that invites participation rather than observation.
