Description
Sequim, WA - June 11, 2024 - The Lodge at Sherwood Village is proud to announce a significant event in dementia care education. On Monday, June 24th, at 2:00 p.m., the community is invited to participate in a comprehensive training program focused on dementia care. The event will take place at The Lodge at Sherwood Village, located at 660 W. Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim, WA 98382. To attend this crucial event and become part of the movement towards dementia-friendly communities, please RSVP to 360-681-3100.
Guest speaker Brittanie Buchanan, Dementia Outreach Development Coordinator and Dementia Friends Regional Coordinator, will lead the session. Buchanan brings her expertise as a SHARE Counselor within the Dementia Outreach Program at the Olympic Area Agency on Aging.
The training program is designed to inform community members about dementia, including its types, communication techniques, and ways to foster a dementia-friendly environment. Attendees will learn the five key messages of Dementia Friends and how to take action within their communities to support those living with dementia.
"Dementia Friends helps to inform community members on understanding what dementia is, how to communicate, and what you can do in your community to be more dementia-friendly," said Buchanan.
The event aims to encourage individuals to become Dementia Friends by attending the free informational session. By increasing understanding, challenging stigma, connecting to local resources, and engaging in community support, participants can join the movement of Dementia Friends Washington.
It's essential to recognize the prevalence of dementia in Washington state, where 120,000 people live with dementia, and 297,000 individuals care for someone living with the condition. The majority of people living with dementia remain within the community, interacting with the public every day.
Join us in making a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
