Description
There’s nothing like a fresh-cut bouquet to bring elegance, romance and cheer to any occasion. Have you ever wondered how the pros make floral arrangements dazzle? Bring those beautiful flowers from your garden inside and learn how to arrange them with style! Join Clallam County Master Gardeners Marylou Ozbolt-Storer and Pam Pace for the Digging Deeper Saturdays presentation “Making the Most of Your Floral Garden: Preparing and Designing Extraordinary Bouquets,” August 3rd, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road in Sequim. Participants are asked to bring a pair of garden snips and a vase with at least a 3–5-inch opening. Marylou and Pam will talk about basic design elements for bouquet creation such as how colors play off one another, the shapes of various flowers, the impact of texture and elements outside of the box such as vines, shrubs, or branches. They will also show you how to determine which three flowers will set the focal point for your bouquet, how to keep your flowers fresh and which flowers and greens can round out your arrangement. “Whether you want a low centerpiece for a table top; a 20- to 30-inch-high Eiffel Tower impact piece; a frontal for an event; or a loose organic look, elements of color, texture, line, and form are all important to achieve the necessary balance,” Marylou said. Marylou is a Clallam County Master Gardener intern and has been a member of the Seattle Weaver’s Guild since 1968. She is a weaver, spinner, felter and dyer who owned a handwoven clothing business, Fibrearts, Inc. from 1978-1990 which later transitioned into commercial fabrics. Pam has been gardening in the Pacific Northwest for the last 40 years and enjoys growing flowers, herbs, fruit, vegetables and native pollinator plants, including a vibrant, constantly changing wildflower slope garden. Digging Deeper Saturdays presentations are held 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays of selected months. These free public presentations cover basic gardening topics and are scheduled for 90 minutes to allow for demonstrations or questions. This presentation will be held in-person, out of doors at the Master Gardener Woodcock Demonstration Garden. Attendees are encouraged to check the Clallam County Master Gardener online calendar for updates about the location of the talk at https://extension.wsu.edu/clallam/master-gardener-calendar/. In addition to the scheduled educational presentation, a team of Clallam County Master Gardeners will be available at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to answer your gardening questions. Digging Deeper attendees are encouraged to bring samples of garden problems or pests for diagnosis by Master Gardeners who can recommend control measures.
