Description
Presenter: Ken Wiersema, Saturday, June 7, Rainshadow Hall at Dungeness River Nature Center. Suggested donation: $5 This session of Backyard Birding focuses on the end of a bird’s annual breeding cycle. Ken Wiersema explores the essential role parent birds play in protecting, feeding, teaching, and guiding their offspring as they grow their feathers and leave their nests. Late spring and early summer become vulnerable times in the life of fledglings and new birds. Ken expands on how different species vary in preparing their hatchlings for survival and prospering in the world. He will discuss how adult birds interact with their young as they rapidly grow and launch themselves into life faced with changing food needs and other vulnerabilities. This program, filled with local photos, videos, and fun. We invite you to come and gain an understanding of how sub-adult, non-breeding birds interact with the newest generation—and more importantly how you can make your outdoor spaces more inviting and less hazardous for young birds. Admission to this program is free. However, we ask you to consider a donation of $5.00 per person to support our ongoing education and bird conservation programs. For your good health as well as that of other attendees and our volunteer staff, please be aware of the latest COVID-19 health precautions as recommended by Clallam County Public Health and the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.
