Description
As fall changes to winter, let’s rethink how we share our yards with native birds and plants. Using his photos taken in his family’s yard, Steve Koehler will showcase the multitude of bird species we are fortunate to live alongside. He will explore how local birds have evolved, sustained by native plants that provide food, shelter, and nesting places. This seminar goes beyond feeders and nest boxes to consider the natural habitat birds and wildlife used before human presence on the Olympic Peninsula. Steve will emphasis how birds (and the insects they require) use the local flora through the various life stages—and just as importantly, after those trees and plants no longer live. We’ll talk about which native plants may already be present in our yards. In many cases, it may not necessary to add native plants, but instead simply to encourage what’s already there! Please bring your ideas and questions, as well as your recommendations and knowledge of other local resources. Admission to each seminar is free. However, we suggest a donation of $5.00 per person to support ongoing OPAS education and conservation programs. Thanks for your support!
