Time: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM PDT
Event Description:
The Sequim Accordion Social will be held at the Sequim Shipley Center at 921 E. Hammond Street on Sunday, March 11th, from 1 to 4 pm. A $2-3 admission donation is requested at the door to pay for the room. The Featured Players are Ted Lunka and John Guiliani joining us from the greater Seattle area. Join fellow accordion players, enthusiasts and dancers for an afternoon of music and fun. Players of ALL levels are encouraged to bring their accordion and play 1-3 pieces. The intent of the social is to have a supportive and friendly atmosphere, where players can play and everyone can enjoy some great music. As a young guy, Ted Lunka was exposed to polka music on his parents phonograph —Yankovich, Kenny Bass, and many others. He started accordion lessons at age seven, stopped lessons at age 11-ish. He got interested again at age 15, when his dad took him to Slovenia and bought him a button accordion. Like they say, “the rest is history.” Since then, he’s met others to play with - Gary Dime, some guy named John Giuliani and Jack Morrison. Ted has played Leavenworth and several polka fests over the years. He says “I feel joy in playing the box and enjoy watching audience reaction to the music. I feel fortunate to have this gift of music and the many wonderful people l have met because of the accordion." John was very excited to start taking accordion lessons in 2nd grade because of his Dad being an accordionist with his own combo. He took lessons from his Dad's good friend and previous accordion teacher, Al Fabre. In 7th grade he also began playing the string bass and had his first gig with his Dad's combo at age 13. He has continued to perform ever since. John went on to get a Music Education degree and taught high school band and choir for a few years in the public schools. Today, he plays gigs, teaches private lessons, and enjoys substitute teaching.
