Description
The Sequim Accordion Social will be held at the Sequim Shipley Center at 921 E. Hammond Street on Sunday, March 11th, from 1 to 4 pm. Join fellow accordion players, enthusiasts and dancers for an afternoon of music and fun. Players of ALL levels are encouraged to bring their accordion and play 1-3 pieces. The intent of the social is to have a supportive and friendly atmosphere, where players can play and everyone can enjoy some great music. Many of us know Bonnie Birch from the Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration. She’s head of the organizing committee, but also essentially the Artistic Director, motivator, mentor, and the festival wouldn’t happen without her. She’s also a fantastic musician, who wowed us with her music last time she was in Sequim. Bonnie began studying the accordion at age 7 and focused mainly on classical-style playing. She entered and won many competitions which resulted in a performance in Carnegie Hall. After a computer science career, Bonnie resumed accordion playing with a whole new approach. Bonnie plays professionally for many types of events in the Northwest including restaurants, dances, French, German, Italian festivals, Seattle Art Museum, etc. She has studied jazz with many prominent teachers and incorporates those elements in all her playing. She plays solo, has her own band, and accompanies singers. Bonnie will be joined by guitarist Nick Heiting and tuba player Paul Ostler, musicians she has worked with for over 15 years.
