Sequim Accordion Social

The Sequim Accordion Social will be held at the Sequim Shipley Center at 921 E. Hammond Street on Sunday, November 11th, from 1 to 4 pm. A $2-3 admission donation is requested at the door to pay for the room. The Featured Player is Ken Lillagore from Sequim, WA. Join fellow accordion players, enthusiasts and dancers for an afternoon of music and fun. Players of ALL levels are encouraged to bring their accordion and play 1-3 pieces. The intent of the social is to have a supportive and friendly atmosphere, where players can play and everyone can enjoy some great music. Ken started playing the accordion when he was around 9 years old. He took lessons for a few years and was even instrumental in starting a small band called, “The Offbeats”. After graduating from high school, however, Ken’s accordion spent most of its time in the closet as he traveled with the Air Force and for his career. While listening to three men provide special music at church one Sunday, Ken realized that he was wasting a God-given talent and began playing again. He played at church, nursing homes, etc. and eventually wound up accompanying the Broomfield Civic Chorus in Colorado for several years. Ken and his wife, Gay Lyn, retired to Sequim in 2015 and he quickly became a regular at the Sequim Accordion Socials. Since joining the Socials, Ken has expanded his repertoire to include more of the up-beat music, but his favorite style of music remains show tunes and ballads – the good old “love songs”. For the First Friday Art Walk this past May, Ken provided a program at the Olympic Theater Arts which he titled, “Accordion – My Way”. At the urging of several friends, Ken entered his first ever competition at the Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration in June where he won first place in the Variety 1 category.
