Description
The Sequim Accordion Social will be held at the Sequim Shipley Center at 921 E. Hammond Street on Sunday, November 12th, from 1 to 4 pm. A $2-3 admission donation is requested at the door to pay for the room. The Featured Player is Lyle Schaefer, from Puyallup, WA. All players should bring their accordion and a song or two to play, and accordion lovers and dancers are invited to attend for some great music. The program will feature Show Tunes from the great musicals of the 40's and into the 70's. For Lyle music was 'All in the Family.' Dad (Sax), Mom (Piano), Brothers Lynn, Larry and Lyle (Accordion, Drums, Accordion respectively). In 1962, as a young teen, he won 1st Place in his division in competition. After military service with the 82nd Airborne, his career was in the medical profession. He continued to perform, often as a strolling minstrel in the Rhinelander (Portland) and Edelweiss (Vancouver) Restaurants. After returning to the Seattle area he continued to play for dance groups, focusing on music for the WWII’s “Greatest Generation.” He also plays for Ethnic dance clubs, mostly for the Scandihoovians. Career highlights include placing in 11 of 12 categories in Canada's Kimberly International Old Time Accordion Competition. A great honor was playing with brother Lynn until his untimely death in 2000. Lyle has played professionally for over 50 years, and has become a popular musician, playing for all kinds of venues, organizations, and dance clubs. We welcome him to Sequim!
