Description
“Take a Spin in Sequim” is the theme for this year’s “Bike Everywhere Month” of May.
Organizers of the local event have created a “Bicycle Bingo” card listing 25 activities that encourage people of all ages to get out and ride. Activities include Bike to Breakfast, Spin and Shop, See the Straits at Sunset, and Pedal to the Parks – to name a few. Local businesses showing a Bingo card in their window will offer a small discount to bike riders carrying their Bicycle Bingo card (one time use only per business). On May 19th, National “Bike Everywhere Day,” riders can grab a free cup of coffee and a bagel at the Civic Center Plaza on their morning commute.
At the end of the month on May 31st there will be a Town Party from 4-6pm at the Plaza, with prizes for kids in costume and for Bingo participants
with at least one completed row of five. Two online groups are available for the media savvy. Riders can register with the “Bike Everywhere Challenge” (https://www.lovetoride.net/washington) and create a team just for fun or to compete state-wide. And a new online club called “Take a Spin in Sequim” is ready for new members to post photos at www.Strava.com. Members of the Sequim Bicycle Alliance are coordinating the event, with contributions from members including City of Sequim, Sequim School District, Ben’s Bikes, All Around Bikes, Rainshadow Coffee and others. The Mayor will make a proclamation promoting Bike Everywhere Month and “Take a Spin in Sequim” at the City Council’s May 8th meeting. The motivation for biking in May could be to encourage healthy habits before the summer starts, to reduce the emissions and cost of commuting by car, or just to have fun! Bottom line is we have a great place here for riding in all forms and we want to show it off. More information may be found on the City’s website, www.sequimwa.gov, the Facebook page for “Sequim Cycling,” or email Dave Toman at dtoman@sequim.k12.wa.us.
