Dr. Fred Sharpe will give a fascinating talk entitled “The Olympic Rainshadow: Where Clouds Come to Die.” The talk is free and open to the public. With the rain shadow and rainforest, the Olympic Mountains are a land of beauty and ecological complexity. Join Dr. Fred Sharpe in a celebration of our local Mediterranean climate and its counter-intuitive mosaic of prairies, glaciers, mountains, bird life, plants and endemic life forms. Sharpe is a naturalist in the classical tradition: he is co-author and illustrator of Wild Plants of the San Juan Islands, Birding in the San Juan Islands and Voyaging with the Whales. He earned his Ph.D. in animal behavior (Simon Fraser University) and his B.S. in plant ecology (University of Washington)
