Description
Olympic Peninsula Academy (O.P.A.) Students are competing at the Washington State Regional Future City Competition on Saturday January 18th.
The purpose of the competition is for 6th, 7th & 8th grade students to foster interest in engineering, math, and science through hands-on, real world applications. The mission of the Future City Competition is to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program that combines a stimulating engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application to present their vision of a city of the future.
This year’s challenge is “Clean Water: Tap Into Tomorrow” and students are asked to identify an urban water system threat and then imagine, research, design and build a futuristic solution to ensure a reliable supply of clean water. OPA Students present their vision of the future through a virtual city design (using SimCity™ software); a 1,500 word city essay; a scale model of their city (built with recycled materials); and in a short presentation to a panel of STEM professionals. Keeping the engineering design process and project management front and center, students are asked to address an authentic, real-world question: How can we make the world a better place?
Good Luck OPA Middle School Students!
